Great. Enlightening. Challenging
Listen to it at 1.5x to make it even more interesting. Challenges me as a follower of Christ to make Jesus beautiful to the unbelieving world.
Biblical Truth in an Inclusive, Loving Atmosphere
After hearing him speak twice at a conference, I was excited about Mike Erre's [two] podcasts. Mike Erre is consistant with biblical truths and has the background to support his evidence. His love for Jesus comes through his words and is delivered to his audience in a loving and caring way. I prayerfully hope that those who are still questioning their lives and/or their faiths will be open to what Mike has to say and find that Christianity and Jesus are the definitions of peace, safety, and a fulfilling and everlasting life!
Fundamentally challenging
The discussion Mike has been leading in this podcast benefits me immensely, and has provoked me to rethink many long-held positions and assumptions. I deeply appreciate this podcast.
Mike Gets It
He's still human, but he gets it. VOX has been an incredibly healing and enriching experience for me, a long time Christian. From my perspective, Mike and co. really get into the gritty and often uncomfortable realities that tradition and many 'isms' keep people from honestly engaging with. That last sentence was horrid but hopefully I got my point across. Keep up the good work, VOX! (pssst: if you find their work (or Mike's comic routines) enjoyable, go to their website and donate like I just did!)
Historical relevance
Mike does not give preachy teachy view of bible. He dives in to the historical content of the scriptures which allow for depth and understanding to take place in my heart. I retain so much more about scripture.
Graduate Course In Grace
Confession. I am a bit of a podcast junkie. I have about 20 different podcasts on my phone. But THIS podcast is the first one that has ever caused me to pull off the road in tears. Coming from a family that ranges from agnostic to militant atheist, it is powerful to hear words and thoughts that I would be comfortable asking any of them to listen to this podcast. I would be comfortable inviting Mike to dinner with my family. It is a graduate course in grace. And while I disagree with Mike about Pearl Jam being the world's best band and Coors Light even being worthy of being called a lager...I continue to listen again and again. This podcast will make you laugh, cry, lament, and feel hope and joy...usually in one episode. If you don't know Jesus, listening to this podcast will make you want to learn more. If you don't love your neighbor, this podcast will want to make you learn more. ~ @RobJacobs_
YES.
Mike speaks truths that my heart always knew, but that I didn't have the words for.
Ready to Wrestle?
Get ready to wrestle with what you believe and why you hold that mindset. Pastor Mike tackles topics in a way that challenges beliefs from multiple angles and tackles what it looks like to reflect Jesus. Pastor Mike beseeches The Church to front love and front grace condition free - as our Savior did and calls us to do.
Perspective
I appreciate Mike taking on a lot of stuff most churches and teachers avoid. Mike is gracious to "outsiders" and I feel challenged every time I listen. I don't agree with everything Mike or some of his guests say, but they cause me to question and wrestle with what I believe and lead me to evaluate it. That is good teaching!! I feel like questioning and wrestling with what is going on around me in my culture is important and you can't live in the Christian bubble if you want to see Jesus come to your community and truly follow him if you just take what someone says or what you have heard growing up as absolute truth. I grew up in a Spiritually abusive church in Orange County and the older I get the more I see how toxic it really was. I would encourage anyone including my gay boss, friends hurt by the church and atheist friends to listen to the conversation. And if you want to see true hipsters come to Portland. Andy is a So Cal version the real ones are up here.
31in13
I recently discovered this podcast and so appreciated the conversation that I listened to 31 episodes in 13 days. Its a sweet balance of humor and depth that makes me think and reconsider long held views in my christian upbringing. I feel challenged to re-orientate my thinking and align more with the Jesus of the Bible and the radical lifestyle He called people into which is quite different than how I was raised or what I find in many churches today. The podcast conversation is filled with grace for all of us on a journey, no matter where we find ourselves in faith or doubt. Now that I caught up on all the episodes, I'll just have to wait week to week to conitnue in the conversation, and I look forward to the raw and honest continuing conversation. Thank you
I don’t review podcasts
I have never reviewed a podcast but this one is too good to not show some love to. Great topics that the church has traditionally stuck it’s head in the sand over. I appreciate the desire to introduce ideas, start conversations and encourage the listener to wrestle with the topic. Though I agree with Mike 90% of the time, even the 10% where we weren’t already in alignment, I find myself saying he brings up excellent points I hadn’t thought of. Sometimes that forces me to have to change a view and other times I still say I think we see this differently but that makes for an excellent podcast. Unfortunately, Mike has terrible taste in beer and music but the rest of the podcast is so good I can’t even dock him a star.
I look forward to this podcast every week!
Mike's approach to teaching the bible and discussing controversial topics is very refreshing. Subscribe now and don't look back! He also has great taste in music.
Great stuff
Worth letting your guard down and letting this challenge you!
No Rules & A Clean Slate!!
Mike’s views and opinions are so refreshing. Regardless of your past, Mike makes you feel like there is hope in your future. Definitely worth listening to!!
I love it
I love how inclusive this podcast is. I learn so much, laugh often, and say amen continually. This is such a blessing to my life
The Details We Don't Get on Sunday Morning
This podcast is simply amazing: thought-provoking, challenging, and truly authentic dialogue about how to follow Jesus as He is portrayed in the New Testament. These are crucial conversations that tend to not take place on Sunday morning, but plague many people's faith. They are handled with tact and a balance that brings heady theological concepts into an accessible format. Thank you, Mike! I've been with you since the beginning RH days!
Honest and Thoughtful
Truly, I hope Mike doesn't care about what I post in this review, and you shouldn't really either. What I respect is that he is attempting to follow Jesus and screw the consequences, and yet that doesn't lead to anger or hostility but a sort of frank generosity and grace. That's the voice I hear from Jesus in the gospels and so I respond when I hear it anywhere else in the world.
I listen to this podcast and it goes deep
I really appreciate the talk today about listening and interacting well. I’m new to the Christian church after a decade away from the Catholic church. The reservation I carry is my own liberal belief that God created all with purpose, so it’s lovely that we have diversity and I don’t believe it’s our job to judge. I LOVE this talk because it honors differences and finds common ground, which is love based, which to me is Christ based.
Refreshing!
Finally I am hearing answers to my dilemma about Christianity vs. follower of Jesus. I have a son with a mental illness and there seems to be no margin for him in the church. I know Jesus would have hung out with him because Jesus hung out with all the marginalized people of His day. I don’t believe the followers of Jesus were referred to as Christians. Were’t they called His disciples? I would rather live my life as a disciple instead of referenced as a Christian.
so good!
I love listening to this podcast. Mike does such a great job of bringing in the cultural and historical context of the scripture. He challenges my thinking in unique ways. He makes Jesus real. Whether you have been a Christian all of your life or you are questioning what you believe, this podcast will help you in you journey.
Refreshing and Challenging
Refreshing to hear someone being honest about their depression. It gives others permission to do the same. I like that Mike and Andy talk about hard things. I want to hear more about women in the church!
This is it!
Been looking for a Christian podcast that was more conversational and less preachy, more topic-based and less sermon-based. I believe I've finally found it. Super great stuff that is accessible and useful. Well done, Mike!
Jesus First!
It's good to hear about Jesus first and His perspective, learning something new each time. A big contrast to the church that I grew up in that seemed to cater to existing Christians only.
